He was born April 17, 1950, in Mahaska County, the son of William and Nellie Roozeboom Brubaker. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1968 and then attended William Penn College and then Central College. On June 16, 1979, John was united in marriage to Linda Kistenmacher at Des Moines, Iowa. He was born April 17, 1950, in Mahaska County, the son of William and Nellie Roozeboom Brubaker. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1968 and then attended William Penn College and then Central College. On June 16, 1979, John was united in marriage to Linda Kistenmacher at Des Moines, Iowa. He was a machinist at Precision Pulley in Pella, Iowa, for 30 years before illness forced an early retirement in August of 2008. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Oskaloosa, and had served as a deacon. He had been active in activities of his children as they were growing up -- with Little League baseball, and also had coached Babe Ruth league, a Cub Scout leader, and as a youth basketball coach. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, and animal hunting, especially yearly family deer hunts. He also enjoyed watching westerns and the History Channel on television, and rooting for both the Iowa State Cyclones and Iowa Hawkeyes. His family includes his wife, Linda Brubaker of Oskaloosa; a son, Luke Brubaker (and fiancee Carrie Czerniak) of Fort Madison, Iowa; and a daughter, Sarah Brubaker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two brothers and their wives, Robert and Pam Brubaker of Peoria, Illinois, and Rodger and Mary Lou Brubaker of Flagstaff, Arizona; two sisters, Dianne Lemon of Des Moines and Jane and Larry Murry of Camp Verde, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his parents-in-law, Ed and Marie Kistenmacher of Des Moines; two brothers-in-law, Mark (and Terri) Kistenmacher of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Glenn (and Lori) Kistenmacher of Des Moines; and a sister-in-law, Irene (and Dan) Gamble of Elkhart. John was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and a sister-in-law, Annie Brubaker. Funeral services for John Brubaker will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the First Christian Church in Oskaloosa, with the Reverend Mike Omundson officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Visitation will begin at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Wednesday after 10 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church.
