Description	:	Nels U. Nelson (95) was born in Ølgod, Ribe Denmark, the son of Johannes and Hansina Nielsen. The Ølgod Museum in Denmark has the cradle that Nels U had as a child. In 1913 he emigrated to the United States and worked as a carpenter in Detroit, MI for a short time. He came to Kenmare shortly afterward and worked for the Soo Line Railroad until entering the U.S. Army in 1915. Nelson (95) was born in Ølgod, Ribe Denmark, the son of Johannes and Hansina Nielsen. The Ølgod Museum in Denmark has the cradle that Nels U had as a child. In 1913 he emigrated to the United States and worked as a carpenter in Detroit, MI for a short time. He came to Kenmare shortly afterward and worked for the Soo Line Railroad until entering the U.S. Army in 1915. He was wounded in action in France during WWI and returned to Kenmare following his discharge. He began working as a rural mail carrier in the Kenmare area until his retirement in 1963 following 39 years of service. On June 17, 1922 he married (1) Edna Marie Nelsen, daughter of Nels Christian Nelsen (Danish immigrant) and Anna Marie Petersen. Edna died of asthma in July 16, 1944 in Kenmare, ND. Nels U. then married on Sept. 2, 1946 to (2) Alice Sorenson Foster b. Feb. 13, 1911, Kenmare, ND daughter of Viggo and Marie Sorensen. d. April 21, 1983 at 72 yrs. She is buried April 23, 1983 at Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. Nels and Alice lived in Kenmare. Nels U.was a member of the Fire Department, the Association of Commerce, the Danish Brotherhood Lodge, The Country Club and the Nazareth Luthern Church. He was also a member of the Big Four Mail Carriers Assoc. He is survived by his daughter Marion Johnson and Jeanette Marshall both of Minot. Nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and brothers and sister in Denmark. Besides his wives, Nels was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine Charlesworth in 1970 and step-daughter, Carol Foster in 1988. Edna Nelsen and Nels U. Nelson had five daughters: 1. Anna Christian Nelson b. Sept. 15 1914 died Sept. 16, 1914 born prematurely buried in Kenmare, Lakeview Lutheran Church, Kenmare, ND 2. Marion Ione Nelson b.1925 in Kenmare, ND m. Roger James Johnson, Minot, ND.d. 2015 in Mohall, ND 3. Lorraine Marie Nelson b. Sept. 11, 1927 in Kenmare, ND died of asthma in April 9, 1970 in the Kenmare Hospital, ND. Buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Kenmare, ND. 4. Edna (Jeanette) Nelson b. in Kenmare, ND m. John Oliver Marshall, Nashville, TN Lives in Hudson, Wisconsin 5. Carol Nelson Foster, Oakland, CA daughter of Alice Sorenson Nelson. Nels retired in 1963. He and Alice lived in Kenmare until moving to Trinity Homes in Minot in 1982. The Thompson-Larson Funeral Home of Kenmare handled the service.
