Johnson died at his home a few miles southwest of Stratford Wednesday of last week after an illness of several months duration. Funeral services were held Sunday from the Swedish Mission Church in the Swede Bend community and were conducted by Rev. Abrahamson of the Pilot Mound Mission church. Interment was made in the Hardin Township Cemetery. Interment was made in the Hardin Township Cemetery. Nels Victor Johnson was born in Tidhult, Oppeby socken, Östergötland, Sweden, September 10, 1836, and died April 13, 1927, at the ripe old age of 90 years, 7 months, 3 days. He was united in marriage in Sweden in 1862 to Sophia Anderson and to them four children were born: Anna, Louisa, Sophia and Andrew. Mrs. Johnson died while the family still resided in Sweden in 1874. In 1882 the father and his children came to America settling in the Swede Bend community and here deceased had spent the remaining years of his life. In 1886 he was again married, to Mrs. Charlotta Samuelson, who died in 1907. Since the death of his second wife he had been living with his children and on his farm southwest of Stratford. He leaves to mourn his passing, his son, Andrew, and daughters, Mrs. Louisa Leaf and Mrs. John Quick, all living in this community. He also leaves to mourn his death, 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three step children; Mrs. Andrew Olson, Mrs. Ed Bergman and Jennie Samuelson, besides a host of friends. ************************************** Nels Johnson was married to Christine Sophia Andersdotter on Oct. 31, 1861 in Sweden. She was born Oct. 1, 1835 and died March 13, 1874 in Sweden. They had five children. Nels remarried to Charlotte Peterson on Dec. 14, 1886 in Boone County, Iowa.
