He is believed to be the earliest resident of Gage county, having come to this county in 1857. His father, John O. Adams, was the first white man to settle in Gage county and this village was named for him. Nelson Adams was married three times. In 1866 he wedded Laura Haskins, who died after only four months of conjugal happiness. In 1868 he married Lydia Wilson who was the companion of his joys and sorrows for many years. To this union two children were born, Nancy E., who became the wife of C. B. Ashcraft, and resides at Lander, Wyo., and a second daughter who died in childhood. He was married five years ago to Emily J. Simpson, who still survives him. Mr. Adams was a soldier during the civil war, seeing service with the regiment of cavalry from Nebraska. he was nearly all his life a staunch member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was a Christian in deed as well as in name. Honored, respected, and loved by all who knew him. Funeral was held in the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, at 3 o'clock, conducted by pastor, Rev. Phillip Smith, assisted by Rev. Doole and Rev.
