Nay Evenson, an old man 77 years of age, who lives about 10 miles northwest of Eureka on Fall River, fell from a wagon loaded with hay Tuesday afternoon (Sept 26) and was killed; he was hauling hay on a wagon box and had brought in two loads and was returning with the third; the hill leading down to the ford across the river is very steep and at the foot is a culbert across a ditch leading into the river; the culbert is covered with poles making it very rough and crossing this place it is supposed the old gentleman, who was very feeble and had been sick most of the summer, lost his balance and fell off; the team went to the barn but his wife supposed he was working around the barnyard and thought nothing of it, not seeing him in the course of a half or three quarters of an hour she becames alarmed and started out in search of him; Chris Evenson a son of the old gentleman was returning to the house and found his father lying by the culbert; he had lain there an hour before he was discovered. Justice MIller, Sheriff Henderson and County Attoney Clogston went to the Evenson home yesterday and held an inquest but no evidence of any character was present except that Mr. Evenson met his death in an accidental manner and that was the Jury's verdict. Mr. Evenson was one of the old settlers of this county having resided here about 30 years; Funeral services were held at the house yesterday, interment being made in the Norwegian cemetery.
