Church, Burial In Lake Creek Cemetery When the word was passesd from lip to lip at an early hour Monday morning that Mrs. Jesse Biggs had been called from the shores of time during the night, there was a feeling of genuine sorrow. One who has taken such an interest in church and other activities, was taken from among us. When high hopes were entertained that she would soon recover from a recent operation and again taken up the work she had laid down just a few weeks ago. But it was not to be and the home, church and the fraternal orders where she was always found ready to do any task impossed upon her, will know her no more. Nettie Reid was born at Hemrick, Ill., on Oct. 13, 1881 and departed this life at her late home in Edna, Kansas on April 6th, 1931, age 49 years, 5 months, 23 day. She grew to young womanhood in her native state, and on October 15, 1902 was united in marriage to Jesse Biggs, also a resident of Hemrick, Ill. To this union three children were born, one daughter and two sons. They are, Mrs. Joe McKnight of Lindsay, Cal.; Keller and Dale Biggs of the home. She is also survived by her husband, three brothers, Sam Reid of near Angola, John Reid of Covington, Ind., and E. G. Reid of Peru, Ind., and one sister, Mrs. Ella Hobson of Bartlett, Kansas. Leaving her native state she came to Labette county, with her family in 1909 and with the exception of a few months in Oklahoma has resided all these years in and near Edna. For many years she had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and took a prominent part in all of the church activities. For three years she was president of the Methodist Aid Society. She also a member of the Security Benefit Association and the Royal Neighbors and Rebekah Orders, in which she was active in work and attendance. In the home she was a considerate and kind wife and a loving mother and her neighbors and friends speak of her in the highest terms. The funeral will take place (pending the arrival of a daughter from California) this Thursday afternoon from the Methodist church, the Pastor Rev. Mark G. McIntosh conducting the services. Interment in the Lake Creek cemetery six miles east of Edna.
