Wingate, familiarly known as "Uncle Newt," died suddenly at his home four miles south of Lentner Saturday afternoon of heart trouble. He had an attack on Tuesday of last week but had rallied and had been up and around the house, and on Thanksgiving Day all the children had been home to dinner, which he seemed to enjoy very much. He and his wife were alone on Saturday when he took ill suddenly, dying almost immediately. Funeral services were held at Oak Ridge church on Monday afternoon, conducted by a former pastor, Rev G. W. Spent Most of Life in Shelby Co. Lentner, Mo., Dec. 3.—Newton S. Wingate, a pioneer citizen of near Lentner, 76 years old, died suddenly at his home Saturday evening. He had been slightly ill for the last few days but was not thought at all dangerously so. While conversing with his wife, he suddenly grew worse and died just as the physician arrived. He was one of four children, born in Moniteau county, Mo., on April, 8, 1848. He came to Shelby county early in life and settled after his marriage to Miss Virginia Kidwell in February, 1868, on the farm near Oak Ridge church, four miles south of here. He joined the church in 1873, and was ever after a faithful and consistent christian man. The funeral sermon was delivered by his favorite pastor, the Rev. Mr. Humphrey, of Maywood, to an unusually large congregation.
