The Democrat says: The funeral of Nicholas P. Hoffmann occurred Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic church in this city, Rev. P. Hoffmann, of Ft. Madison, officiating, assisted by Rev. Brune of this place and Rev. Schilmocler, of Hospers. Mr. Hoffmann was a native of Germany and came to America fifty-three years ago. He was afflicted with asthma, which disease caused his death on Sunday, Jan. 13, in the 66th year of his life, at the residence of his only son, Rev. P. Hoffmann at Ft. Madison, Iowa. The remains were brought to this city for interment and a very large audience of friends attended the funeral, attesting their love and affection for this good old man who had so often befriended them. His wife, one sister Mrs. Nic Hoffmann, of LeMars, and one brother, Chas. Hoffmann, of St. Donatus, survive him. Mr. and Mrs. Theo. Arens, Mr. and Mrs. John Pfeffer, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mousel and the Goebel brothers are also relatives of the deceased. ---------- The Alton Democrat; Alton, Sioux County, Iowa; January 19, 1895. At the residence of his son Rev. Father Hoffman, corner of DesMoines street and Union Avenue, this city at 11:30 o'clock Sunday morning Jan 13, 1895, Nicholas Hoffman; age 65 years 11 months and 2 days. Nicholas Hoffman was born in Luzemburg, Germany, Feb 11, 1829. He came to America 53 years ago and made his home at St. Donatus Jackson Co. Ia, where he resided until 1889, when he removed to West Burlington. In 1893 he came to this city and has resided here since. Mr. Hoffman was married 1856 to Miss Anna Pfeffer, who survives him. He was a devoted Catholic and a good Christian man. The remains were taken to Alton, Iowa, Tuesday night, where they were interred Thursday morning - Fort Madison Democrat. --------- The Alton Democrat; Alton, Sioux County, Iowa; October 16, 1909 Pursuant to the dying wish of his widow who passed away at Fort Madison recently the remains of Nicholas Hoffmann were removed from St. Mary's cemetery in Alton this week and reinterred in Sacred Heart cemetery at Fort Madison. Rev. Father Peter Hoffman came from Fort Madison Thursday and brought with him Undertaker Wiltgen of LeMars. Theodore Arens of Alton--whose wife is a sister of Mrs. Hoffman--and other Alton relatives assisted in the disinterment. It was a solemn company that gazed once more into that grave which had been sealed since January eighteenth 1895 and in which only a skeleton remained. The remains were placed in a new zinc lined casket and Rev. Hoffmann departed with them Thursday night.
