SCHROEDER ANSWERS LAST CALL Deceased Was a Native of Luxemburg and Came to Plymouth County When a Young Man and Engaged in Farming Operations Nic Schroeder, one of the pioneers of Plymouth county, died at his home in Oyens on Friday of heart trouble and other complications. Mr. Schroeder had been in poor health for some time but the end was unexpected and came as a shock to his relatives and friends. John Nicholas Schoeder was a native of the Grand Duchy of Luxemburg, Europe, and was born at Dippach on March 13, 1846. When a young man he came to LeMars in 1873, and a year or two later returned to his native land and was united in marriage with Katherine Brucher. They came immediately to Plymouth county and took up their residence on a homestead half a mile from where is now the town of Oyens and lived there until a short time ago when they bought a plot o£ ground in Oyens. Two sons were born to their union, one of whom, when a little fellow only two years of age fell in Deep Creek and waa there drowned. Their son, Eugene, lives on the old home place. Besides his wife and son, Mr. Schroeder leaves also a sister, Mrs. Steiner, of Rose Creek, Minn., and a brother, J. P. Schroeder, of Iona, Minn. He was a brother-in-law of J. P. Brucher and Gene Eilenbecker, of this city. Mr. Schroeder was widely acquainted in the county, especially among the older residents and the Luxemburgers, many of whom he had known since boyhood in his native land before emigrating to America. Mr. Schroeder made his first trip to America in company with Mat Wurth, of this city. Mr. Schroeder and his wife went through the vicissitudes which befell early settlers in the northwest and gained the reward of honest toil and effort and for many years have enjoyed prosperity. The funeral was held this morning at St. Catherine's church in Oyens and was largely attended by old settlers and neighbors. Rev. Father H. Rolfes celebrated the requiem mass.
