Description	:	Nita Joy Thornton, the daughter of Chet and Orel (Lovewell) Poole, was born on January 28, 1929, in the town on Lovewell, Kansas. She passed away on October 13, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 15 days following a courageous battle with a brain tumor. Read More	Nita Joy Thornton, the daughter of Chet and Orel (Lovewell) Poole, was born on January 28, 1929, in the town on Lovewell, Kansas. She passed away on October 13, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Center in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 15 days following a courageous battle with a brain tumor. Nita attended many schools as a child and graduated Valedictorian from Lovewell High School in 1946. She went on to obtain her teaching degree from Kansas State College in Manhattan, Kansas and returned to Lovewell to teach where she was lovingly referred to by her students as Miss Nita. On August 7, 1949, she was united in marriage to Dean Thornton in Webber, Kansas and the marriage was blessed with four children. Much of their life together was spent farming and traveling. Nita was passionate about her family and creating a loving home. She was a talented seamstress and baker and enjoyed gardening and spending time with her friends. She was an active member of the Superior Church of Christ. Nita's generosity and kindness were an inspiration to her family. She lived her life with courage, strength and a smile. Nita is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bob Poole and her grandson Cyrus Thornton. Survivors include her husband, Dean; her son and daughter-in-law Brad and Jill Thornton of Lincoln; former daughter-in-law Shirley Thornton of Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law DeAnn and John Lewis of Hickman; son Philip Thornton of Bloomington, Illinois; and daughter and son-in-law Julie and Ted Murray of Blair, Nebraska; nine grandchildren; Andrea(Nate) Krieser of Lincoln; Wendy (Jerry) McKernan, of Beatrice; Darcy and Brandon Lewis, Stuart and Nathan Thornton and Ryan Longstreth all of Lincoln; Kelsie, Tyler and Michael Murray of Blair; seven great grandchildren; Alana, Abigayle and Aubriana Krieser;Caleb, Brenna and Bryleigh McKernan; and Corbin Lucas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Good Samaritan Center for their loving care, help and support. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at 11:00 AM from the Church Of Christ in Superior, Nebraska with Pastor Jim Stark officiating. Music was "Amazing Grace" and "Wish You Were Here", with Mavis Sack as soloist and Carlita Erickson as pianist. Pallbearers were Brandon Lewis, Stuart Thornton, Nathan Thornton, Nathan Krieser, Jerry McKernan, Joe Lucas and Ryan Longstreth. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery at Superior, Nebraska. A memorial has been established and may go in care of the family. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements.
