ASHMEADE DEAD Died Suddenly In Lower Part Of City On Saturday Morning Funeral Services Held On Tuesday Afternoon Capt. Noah F. Ashmeade, one of Crisfield's most highly respected citizens, died very suddenly in the down town section of the city Saturday of last week. He was 80 years of age. While he had been poorly, it was not known that his condition was serious, and the sudden attack which caused his death came without warning. His parents were the late Joseph and Nancy Ashmeade, well known residents of the community, and Capt. Noah was, for many years, engaged in the seafood business, both as catcher and processor. Several years ago he retired from active business, and had been living quietly with his wife at their home on Richardson Avenue. Capt. Noah was one of the bluff, hearty types of men who enjoyed friends, enjoyed work, and enjoyed pleasure. He was energetic and competent, always had a smile and friendly words for those whom he liked, and was always ready to help in times of trouble and distress. He grew up in the town along with the town, and in his younger days was ready at any minute to protect and help his neighbors, companions and other friends. He was an expert in seafood, probably as well acquainted with all the ramifications of the crab business as any man who engaged in it. Funeral services were held at his home on Richardson Avenue Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lowry, assisted by Rev. Charles M. Elderdice. Interment was in the family lot in Asbury cemetery. Pallbearers were Elmer Lane, Edmond Tull, V. S. Daugherty, Harry Chelton, Wilmer Lawson and Lloyd Riggin. A large number of relatives and friends attended the services, and many beautiful floral pieces were sent as expressions of affection from those who held him in great esteem. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dolly M. Ashmeade, two sons, Joseph C. Ashmeade and Lacy C. Ashmeade, both of Baltimore, one brother, Joseph Ashmeade, and four grandchildren. Ashmead. He was born 7 Feb 1864 in Crisfield, MD, and died 3 Feb 1945 in Crisfield, MD, aged 80 yrs, 11 mos, and 27 days. Mr. Ashmead was retired from the U.S. Ordinance Dept. His wife, Dolly M.
