The daughter of Harold D. and Caroline (Leach) Couch, she was born on December 8, 1926, in Yakima, WA. She grew up in Peshastin, where she attended school, graduating from Peshastin High School in 1945. On July 31, 1945, she married Jonah W. Heimbigner, and in 1946, they moved to Ritzville where they lived on the family farm. Norma was a devoted wife and mother, giving birth to 4 sons. Throughout the nearly 40 years that she lived on the farm, she gave unselfishly of herself to all. In addition to family and community activities, Norma was a lifetime member of the IOOF/Zenobia Rebekah Lodge #118, the Washington State Grange, Marcellus Chapter #942, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Throughout her life, Norma drew on her strong faith as a sustaining force. She was a longtime member of the Philadelphia Congregational Church in Ritzville, and in later years, the Ritzville Church of the Nazarene. Following the passing of her husband in 1985, she moved to Yakima to be closer to her father and sister, Carol Jean (Kay) Dorsett. As her battle with Parkinson's progressed, in 1997, she moved to Spokane to be closer to her sons. At the time of her death she was a resident of Manor Care Center in Spokane. Survivors include three sons and families, Jon and Karen Heimbigner of Spokane, Barry and Twila Heimbigner of Kona, Hawaii, and Scott and Sherie Heimbigner of Odessa; one sister, Carol Jean (Kay) and Bill Dorsett of White Pass; seven grandchildren including Chad Heimbigner, Jeremy Heimbigner, and JoEne Liezen, all of Spokane, Anne Kertson of Issaquah and Sarah Heimbigner of Charlottesville, VA, and Natasha Heimbigner and Jessica Heimbigner of Odessa; and 4 great-grandchildren. Husband Jonah preceded her in death in 1985, as did son Lynn in 1978. Services will be held for Norma Jean (Couch) Heimbigner on Friday, February 18, 2005, in Ritzville, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home of Ritzville is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the Northwest Parkinson's Foundation, P.O. Box 56, Mercer Island, WA 98040
