Description	:	Norma Young, 87, of Fort Madison died on December 26, 2016 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Cremation and arrangements are being handled by Iowa Cremation. A celebration of her life will be held 11:00am Tuesday January 3,2017 at Fort Madison United Methodist Church 510 9th Street Fort Madison, Iowa. Norma was born to John and Fern (Meier) Swanstrom on August 24, 1929 on the family farm in Keokuk County. On June 4,1950 she married Kenneth E. Young in Hedrick, Iowa. Norma is survived by one brother, Robert Swanstrom, of Fort Collins, CO, daughter, Patricia Rod (Steven)of Mount Pleasant, son, Perry Young (Kala) of Danville, and daughter Pamela Young (Darrell) of Rock Island, IL, grandchildren Karin Rod (Dario Villagomez), Owen Rod (Emily), Candice Grossman (Wylie), Randy Young and 3 great grandchildren plus another on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Naomi Wells, husband Kenneth, and son Philip Young. Norma graduated from Hedrick High School and Iowa Wesleyan College. She taught Home Economics for Keota, Mount Pleasant, Nichols, and Fort Madison Community Schools where she made the "Plasma" Bloodhound mascot costume a few times. She was a member of the Fort Madison United Methodist Church. Norma enjoyed flowers, gardening, cooking , sewing, and most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
