Description	:	Services were held Thursday, Nov. 16 at Second Reformed Church in Lennox for Norman Dykstra who, following a short illness, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. He attained the age of 74 years and two days. Officiating during the service was the Rev. Dr. Harlan Hayunga. Esther Buse was orgnasit. Brad Winterboer sang "In The Garden" and "Mansion Over The Hilltop". Honorary pallbearers were George Steever, Alvin Dykstra, Wilbur Dykstra, James Dykstra, Tim Cook, and Raymond Mouw. Interment was held in the Lennox Cemetery with Military Rites by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard. Norman Edward Dykstra was born on a farm near Marion, South Dakota on Nov. 9, 1932, the son of Samuel and Anna (Oordt) Dykstra. He grew up there and graduated from Marion High School. He attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, Iowa. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and was stationed in Alaska. On Mar. 26, 1957 he was united in marriage to Lorretta Mouw in Alton, IA. Following their marriage they lived in Canton and moved to Lennox in 1962, where they had since lived. Norman was a careerman with the South Dakota Air National Guard, retiring in 1992. He also was a partner in a tree trimming service in Lennox with Cliff Wulf and Harold Timmerman. Norman was a faithful member of Second Reformed Church in Lennox. He served on the consistory, was an Elder and a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Burtus-Jurgens American Legion Post 4174 in Lennox. He loved to garden and to feed and watch birds. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Raymond Dykstra, and a grandson, Eric Dykstra. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lorretta; one daughter and her husband, Noreen and Ron Bos of Hills, Minnesota; one son: Dale Dykstra of Marion, Texas; three grandchildren: Christine Dykstra, Jacob and Caleb Bos; three brothers: Alvin Dykstra and Wilbur (Iva) Dykstra, both of Lennox, James (Rita) Dykstra of Fairfield, CA; two sisters: Irene Olivier of Pierre and Trudy (Tim) Cook of Ninilchik, Alaska; plus several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
