Read More	NORMAN GALLAGHER - Thursday - April 7, 2005 Chelan - Norman Gallagher, age 87, a Chelan resident for 87 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2005. He was born in Lakeside, Washington, the youngest of four children. As a young child, he lived in Lakeside, on Bear Mountain and on Chelan Butte. He met Ruth Mowrey when he went to help her father butcher a hog. They were married April 15, 1942. Norman was hardworking and self-employed his entire life. Some of his many businesses included mining at Howe Sound Mine, carrying mail to the Azurite and Baltimore mines by dog sled and snowshoe, taking people into the mountains on fishing trips with his pack string, farming along the Columbia River and logging. He had a portable sawmill he used at Stehekin, in Union Valley and on Squaw Creek, which he used to cut all the timbers for the temporary bridges built on the Methow River to replace those that washed out in the 1948 flood. After retiring, he enjoyed growing monstrous vegetables, which he entered in numerous contests and fairs. In 1984, he was the Guinness Book of World Records Champion Pumpkin Grower with a 612-pound Atlantic Giant Pumpkin. He also donated much of his produce to many individuals and organizations. Most everyone will miss Dad's great sense of humor and practical jokes. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth of 62 years; his sister, Hope Clark and brother, William (Bill) Gallagher. He will be greatly missed by sons, Tim Gallagher (Berta) of Tonasket and Pat Gallagher (Barb) of Cashmere; daughters, Norma Van Houton (Bob) of Richland, Marie Ecret (Chuck) of East Wenatchee, Kellie MacLean (Brian) of Omak and Shannon Curry (Eric) of Wenatchee; twelve grandchildren, Jeannie, Jeff, Chuck Jr., Krista, Chris, Trina, Melody, Nikki, Joe, Emily, Ann and Eve; and eleven great-grandchildren, Reed, Lexi, Jordan, Stevie, Nysa, Ashleigh, Caleb, Caspian, Mirabel, Paden and Nolan; and his brother, Larry Gallagher of Manson. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 9, 2005, at Caravel Resort Motel (west end of old Chelan Bridge, 322 W. Woodin) in Chelan. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
