Read More	RUTH IRENE GALLAGHER - Wednesday - October 27, 2004 Chelan - Ruth Irene Gallagher, age 80, a Chelan resident for 80 years, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2004. She was born in Chelan, the oldest of six children, to Ervin and Alice Mowrey, March 5, 1924. As a child, she lived on the south shore of Lake Chelan. She met Norman Gallagher when he came to her family's ranch to butcher a hog with her father. Ruth and Norman were married April 15, 1942. They spent their first six years of marriage cutting one hundred cords of firewood per month for local residents. During that period, their first three children, Norma, Marie, and Tim were born. Norman and Ruth spent their next four years at "River Made Ranch" on the Columbia River growing produce for stores in Chelan and Wenatchee (Dan's Market), truck farming and logging in the fall and winter. Throughout the 1950s, their last three children, Pat, Shannon, and Kellie were born. (With the arrival of Pat, some people thought they had a new grandchild.) During their years in Chelan, Norman and Ruth lived briefly in many areas, one of which was Stehekin, where they had a sawmill. Their children remember Ruth being able to set jello in the Stehekin River in short order. Ruth was active in Norman's work from the beginning of the married life as the bookkeeper for their businesses. She was a Camp Fire Girl Group Leader for her girls and supported her boys in the Boy Scouts. Ruth actively helped as her children won bicycles by selling subscriptions for the Chelan Valley Mirror newspaper. In later years, her flower gardens became her passion. Each flower in their yard was a joy. Ruth worked hard, with Norman at her side. Together they created a place of awesome beauty for everyone to enjoy, and she shared her flowers with anyone who needed a start or a bulb. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Norman of 62 years; sisters, Lucy Hallock (Dan) of Wenatchee, Alice Garton of Chelan, Elsa Todd (Virgil) of Arkansas; brothers, Bill Mowrey (Marie) of Orting, Frank Mowrey of California; sons, Tim Gallagher (Berta) of Tonasket and Pat Gallagher (Barb) of Cashmere; daughters, Norma Van Houten (Bob) of Richland, Marie Ecret (Chuck) of East Wenatchee, Kellie MacLean (Brian) of Omak and Shannon Curry (Eric) of Wenatchee; twelve grandchildren, Jeannie, Jeff, Chuck Jr, Krista, Chris, Trina, Melody, Nikki, Joe, Emily, Ann and Eve; and ten and a half great-grandchildren, Reed, Lexi, Jordan, Stevie, Nysa, Ashleigh, Caleb, Caspian, Mirabal (1/2), Paden and Nolan. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 30, 2004, at Campbell's Resort in Chelan, ballrooms 2 and 3. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Chelan Community Hospital. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.
