Burns, 68, who passed away at Lundberg Memorial Hospital Tuesday, Sept. 14 were conducted Friday morning at 9 o'clock in St. Ludger Catholic church with Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph Falke reading the requiem high mass and officiating at the last rites. Burial was in St. Ludger Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Burns of Omaha, James King of Colome, S.D., Elmer Mecke of Ogallala, Thomas Kildare of Oshkosh, Joseph Neyens and Bruce Hoferer of Creighton. Norman Burns was born at Creighton on July 31, 1886, the son of John L. and Martha Burns. He grew to manhood here and on Feb. 5, 1908, married Miss Margaret Dedlow. They made their home in Creighton for a time and then moved to Montana. After several years, they returned to Creighton, where they reared their family. One daughter and three sons were born to them. Mr. Burns would have served as Knox County Sheriff for 24 years, had he lived until the first of the years. Prior to being elected sheriff, he was city marshal in Creighton for about 12 years. Mrs. Burns passed away in May 1953. Survivors include one daughter and two sons, Louis and John, all of Creighton; eight grandchildren; two sisters; Mrs. Ray Bridgeford of Portland, Ore. and Jennie of Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers, Ralph of Portland, Ore. and Ed of San Francisco, Calif. He was preceded in death by one son, Ed, who died in infancy; his parents and a brother, Alfred, who lived at Norfolk. ...The Creighton News 23 Sept 1954
