Description	:	Son of James & Ferne (Lance) Thompson. He was a ROTC member in high school and enlisted in the Navy on September 4, 1951. He served as a corpsman at Atsugi, Japan and the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton, California. After his discharge on January 27, 1955, he returned to Mount Ayr, Iowa and married Blondena Kirby. They and their son, Greg, moved to California in 1957. He finished his schooling and attended college. In 1966 he received a BA degree from San Fernando Valley State College. After his discharge on January 27, 1955, he returned to Mount Ayr, Iowa and married Blondena Kirby. They and their son, Greg, moved to California in 1957. He finished his schooling and attended college. In 1966 he received a BA degree from San Fernando Valley State College. He then was a programmer on computers which operated the simulator capsule for astronauts in training. He met some of the early astronauts there and later at U.S.A.F. Aerospace Research Pilot School in Houston, TX. On December 11, 1977 he suffered second and third degree burns over 30% of his body rescuing a woman and her son from a burning apartment. In 1986 he moved to Bailey, Colorado, near Denver, and worked as a computer teacher. He married Nancy Brown at that time. In July 1989 he moved to Columbus, Nebraska and was employed by Nebraska Public Power District in the Information Services Department. On October 22, 1996 he married LaVonne Stone. He was a member of the American Legion, Post # 0144 in Genoa, NE and the Flatland HOG Chapter in Columbus, NE. His hobbies were gardening, woodworking, and riding his Harley.
