Description	:	Norman Eason, age 92, of Alton, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Orange City Area Health System. There will be a memorial service on Monday, June 1, at 1:00pm, at the Alton Reformed Church. The Rev. Dr. Perry DeGroot, the Rev. Scott Bonestroo, and Mr. Donald Nelson will officiate. Read More	Norman Eason, age 92, of Alton, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Orange City Area Health System. Norman Ray was born on January 24, 1923 in rural Orange City the son of Oscar and Susan (Freriks) Eason. He was raised on a farm near Carnes, where he attended a country school. He graduated from the Alton Public High School and served in the United States Army from May of 1943 to March of 1946. On February 5, 1948, he married Bertha Johanna Aberson at the Alton Reformed Church. They farmed in the Plymouth and Sioux County area, which he thoroughly enjoyed. After retiring in Alton, he continued to farm with his nephew, Lee Palsma. Norm and Bertha wintered at the Mission Bell Resort in Texas for fifteen years and volunteered their time at Children’s Haven in Renosa, Mexico. He was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where he served on the consistory as a deacon and an elder and was Sunday school superintendent. He demonstrated his faith as a servant leader. He was also a seventy year member of the Floyd American Legion Post in Alton and a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. In addition, he was secretary of the Farmers Elevator Board of Directors in Alton and served as a trustee of Nassau Township. Mr. Eason was a 23 gallon blood donor to Life Serve. In retirement, he devoted twelve years (11,758 hours) to the Hope Haven Wheelchair Ministry in Orange City. He also enjoyed refinishing oak furniture. Survivors include his wife of more than 67 years; two daughters, Mary Eason, of Alton; and Joyce, and her husband, Perry DeGroot, of Titonka; four granddaughters, Rebecca (Andy) Anderson, Rachel (Travis) Popken, Sara (Curt) Sparks, and Susan DeGroot; ten great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Betty Eason, of Orange City; a sister-in-law, Dena Palsma; and a brother-in-law, Pete (Geri) Aberson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Moorhead, and a brother, George Eason.
