Read More	Obituary: THOMAS, NOYES ELWIN — Noyes Elwin Thomas passed away at the Geneva Hospital at 11:50 pm, on Sunday, Nov 21, 1954, after an illness of several years, having been in the Geneva hospital for the past six months, prior to which he spent several months in Lincoln hospitals. He was born in Glengary Township, Fillmore county, on Feb 20, 1880. He came to Geneva with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Talbert Thomas, in March, 1892. He was married on Mar 6, 1939, at McPherson, Kansas, to Vera Lavina Fiedler, who survives him. He is also survived by his sister, Mrs. Minnie Brice of Geneva. Elwin was in business in Geneva 52 years, selling his hardware stock in March, 1951, to Christian Jensen of Omaha. He was located across the street north of the Geneva hotel, known in early days as the Jameson hotel. He started clerking in this location in 1898 for the Van Nice & Morrow grocery firm and later for C. A. Jarvis in his flour and feed store. The late W. T. Thomas, Elwin's father, bought the feed store in 1899 and operated it until 1906. Elwin continued in business with his father. In 1906, an interest in the business was sold to George W. Porter, now of Fairmont, and it was operated as a partnership for a year. At this time, Elwin purchased the interests of the partners, his father and Mr. Porter, and conducted the business. Later he became interested in the purchase and sale of various kinds of field seeds and became an authority as to quality over a territory including several counties. In 1926, John W. Brice of Montana, brother-in-law of Elwin, came to Geneva to make his home. He entered the employ of the firm and continued with it until the business was sold in March, 1951. He passed away in October, 1951. Elmer Babst has been in the employ of Mr. Thomas for over 30 years, assisting materially in the operation of the business. The funeral service was held at the Hrubesky-Farmer funeral home by Rev. F. E. Pfoutz at 2 p. m. Wednesday, November 24, 1954. Burial was in the family lot in the Geneva cemetery. Pallbearers were Albert Woodhead, Paul Schneider, Wayne Dahlgreen, Fred Fisher, harry Theobald and Elmer Babst. Source: The Nebraska Signal Nov, 1954
