Description	:	Octavia Parks was born at Wells, Vermont, December 16, 1842 and departed this earthly life, Wednesday morning January 25, 1911 at her home at Venus. She was aged sixty eight years, one month and nine days. She was married January 1, 1863 to Sylvanus L. Whitmore of Ira, Vermont. They made their home at Middletown Springs, Vermont until 1879, when they moved to Knox county, Nebraska and took up a homestead, which has since been their home. Read More	Octavia Parks was born at Wells, Vermont, December 16, 1842 and departed this earthly life, Wednesday morning January 25, 1911 at her home at Venus. She was aged sixty eight years, one month and nine days. She was married January 1, 1863 to Sylvanus L. Whitmore of Ira, Vermont. They made their home at Middletown Springs, Vermont until 1879, when they moved to Knox county, Nebraska and took up a homestead, which has since been their home. To this union were born three children, two daughters, Helen A., wife of Henry Wellman, Henrietta A., who married Charles Anson and died March 3, 1895 and one son, S. Bertrand. Besides her husband and children, she leaves a sister, Mrs. A.A. Strope of Orchard to mourn her loss. She had been a faithful member of the Methodist Episcopal church since its organization here about twelve years ago. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid Society of this place, in which she took much interest. She had been failing in health for some time, but not sick until Sunday night, when she was taken down with lagrippe, which developed into pneumonia. Those at her bedside at her death were her husband, her son, her sister and her old friend and neighbor, Mr. L.S. Vrooman. Short services were held in the home, Friday, Jan. 27, after which funeral services were held in the church, the sermon being preached by Rev. E.T. George, D.D. Dist. Supt. of the Neligh District of the North Nebraska Conference. Although the day was cold and stormy, the church was filled to its capacity by friends of the deceased paying their last respects and who followed the remains to Hope Cemetery, where they were laid to rest. She was a faithful wife, a kind and loving mother and a true friend to all who knew her.
