Description	:	The community was saddened last Thursday morning when word went out that Mrs. Oda Lucas had passed away suddenly at her home Wednesday night at 11:30, May 23. Oda, as she was familiarly known, had been an asthma sufferer for several years and confined to her home most of the time for the past several months. Oda Blanch Lucas, the daughter of Hardie [sic] and Mollie Howell, was born in Cumberland, April 7, 1904. She attended the Cumberland schools, graduating with the class of 1920. Oda, as she was familiarly known, had been an asthma sufferer for several years and confined to her home most of the time for the past several months. Oda Blanch Lucas, the daughter of Hardie [sic] and Mollie Howell, was born in Cumberland, April 7, 1904. She attended the Cumberland schools, graduating with the class of 1920. After attending summer school in Red Oak, she taught in a rural school for one year. For several years she was assistant pharmacist in the Gordinier Drug Store. On Dec. 28, 1925, she was united in marriage to Oscar J. Lucas at Council Bluffs. With exception of a short time spent in Kentucky and Washington, her married life was spent in Cumberland. Mrs. Lucas was a member of Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, Oscar J. Lucas; mother, Mrs. Mollie Howell of Cumberland; two brothers, Ross P. of Cumberland and Harley of Baltimore, Maryland; one sister, Mrs. John Mattheis of Cumberland. Her father preceded her in death in 1937. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Saturday afternoon, May 25, with Rev. Charles E Segerstrom, assisted by Rev. Joel N. Boone, officiating. Mrs. Bruce Howell accompanied Miss Jean Roberts, Miss Connie Lembke and Miss Cala Worthington, who sang 'Its No Secret' and 'In the Garden', and Bruce Howell, who sang 'No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus'. Mr. and Mrs Ewalt Jensen, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Query, Mr Donald Lewis, and Mrs. and Mrs. Claude MConnell were in charge of flowers. Casket bearers were Hariey J. White, Wm. Riggs, Frank L. Gordinier, Donald Logue, Harley Miller and John Black. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery near Cumberland. Among those attending from a distance were: Mrs. Ida Lucas, Mrs. Harley Chaney, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Chaney, of Audubon; Mr. and Mrs, Paul Edwards of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Loyal Possehl, Wiota; Mr. A. E. Sears, Fontenelle; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Taibl, Lincoln, Nebr.; Bruce Pringey, Adel; Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shearer, Fairfield, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Conine, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ryan, Stuart; Mrs. McGrath, Corning; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Shepherd, Walnut; Mrs. Nora Adams and Mrs. Clyde McManus, Red Oak; Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Peterson, Griswold; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Nichols and Mrs. Mattie Adams of Atlantic. CUMBERLAND (Iowa) ENTERPRISE, 29 May 1951.
