Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 8 at 10 a.m. at Iles Westover Funeral Home at 6337 Hickman Road. Dutch was born on May 19, 1925 in Farrar, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Mingo and graduated from Mingo High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he served on the USS Clinton during WWII from 1944 - 1946 and on the USS Eldorado during the Korean War from 1950 - 1952 where he served as a Gunner's Mate. He received numerous service awards during this time. After his military service, he moved to Des Moines and worked as a Union carpenter. He began his career with Knudson Construction and later worked for Weitz Construction where he retired in 1987. In retirement he continued his love of carpentry. He was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 106, V.F.W. and the American Legion. Dutch's survivors include his wife Bernice of Des Moines, his daughter Nancy Richardson of Des Moines, step-children Shirley Hollingsworth of Green Valley, Arizona, Gary Jacobs Sr. of Grimes, Dennis George of West Des Moines and Nancy Koulogeorge of North Brook, Illinois. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ione Richardson, his brothers Kenny and Zenny, his sisters Yola Plummer and Laota Sanders. The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, January 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kavanagh House on 56th Street or the John Stoddard Cancer Center. ARRANGEMENTS BY ILES FUNERAL HOMES - WESTOVER CHAPEL.
