Olson Ole Bakken was born in Seljord, Telemarken, Norway, November 27, 1861, and died at his home in Binford, Sunday, April 7, 1918, after a short illness of pneumonia, being at the time of his death 56 years, 4 months and 10 days old. Mr. Bakken came to America in 1880, and settled in Stoughton, Wisconsin, where he resided for three years. He continued his journey to Iowa and in 1883, he in company with other relatives, came to Griggs county, where he took up a homestead in Bryan Township. Olson Ole Bakken was born in Seljord, Telemarken, Norway, November 27, 1861, and died at his home in Binford, Sunday, April 7, 1918, after a short illness of pneumonia, being at the time of his death 56 years, 4 months and 10 days old. Mr. Bakken came to America in 1880, and settled in Stoughton, Wisconsin, where he resided for three years. He continued his journey to Iowa and in 1883, he in company with other relatives, came to Griggs county, where he took up a homestead in Bryan Township. From 1901 to 1905 he served as County Treasurer for Griggs county, and previous to his election in the office he had served as deputy for two years under A. H. Berg. In 1906 he went to Binford and became interested in the firm of Buchhelt-Bakken Co., continuing his interest until death claimed him. On November 27, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Dora Myran of Goodhue county, Minnesota, and to this union, which was a most happy one, four children were born. Clarence, Thelma, Esther and Olive, all of whom together with Mrs. Bakken, survive. Funeral services were held at the Lutheran Church in Binford, Tuesday afternoon at 1:30, Rev. T. E. Sweger officiating. It was the largest funeral ever held in Binford, friends and neighbors on long standing coming from all sections of the county to pay their last respects to one universally loved and respected. The floral tributes, mute tokens of love and esteem of relatives and friends were numerous and beautiful. Mr. Bakken was on of the early pioneers, and has had much to do with shaping the destiny of Griggs county and his home village of Binford during the past 35 years. He was a most worthy citizen, honest, upright, devoted to his family and to his home, and his death is a distinct loss to the county in which he has labored so long, so faithfully and so well.
