She was conscious to the last and passed away peacefully on Thursday evening, August 5. Mrs. J. P. Groth, who maiden name was Olena Helgeson, was born near Lanesboro, Fillmore County, Minnesota, February 22, 1864. She was confirmed in the Union Prairie Lutheran Church by Rev. Tobias Larson on the third of July, 1879. She was united in marriage on March 30, 1890 to Jens P. Groth of Lyle, Minnesota. For a period of two years the young couple lived at Lyle and then moved to Ransom County, North Dakota, where she lived up to the time of her death. Most of this time they lived on their farm in Moore Township. For a period of seven years, they resided at Nome, North Dakota, where they have a home, but returned again to the farm, only to leave last fall when the condition of Mrs. Groth's health made it imperative to be nearer to doctor and help. They then moved to the home of their son, Herbert Groth, in Enderlin, where she passed away. Seven children were born to the Groths, of whom four are living. They are Herbert and Alfred of Enderlin, Clarence of Nome, Mrs. Frank Lindor of Sandusky, Montana, the three youngest children, Anna Signora, Erwin Clayton and Nora Eveline, died in infancy. Besides the children already mentioned, she is mourned by her husband, sixteen grandchildren, one brother, Martin Helgeson of Lanesboro, Minnesota, and two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Olson of Harmony, Minnesota, and Mrs. Andrew Austin of Lanesboro, Minnesota. Mrs. Groth was a good mother, a kind friend and neighbor, a faithful member of the Fillmore Lutheran Church. A very large concourse of people had gathered for the funeral, an unequivocal testimony of their sympathy with the bereaved and their esteem and respect for the departed. The body was tenderly laid to rest in the Fillmore Cemetery beside her little children who had gone before. Published in the Enderlin Independent, Enderlin, North Dakota, August 12,1937.
