Doctor Britell was born at Riverton, Fremont County, Iowa, March 20, 1878, and is a son of the late Claudeus Britell, who was born in Illinois and who gained high standing in his profession, that of veterinary surgeon. The Britell family linage traces back to French origin, and representatives of the name became Colonial settlers in America, while the family here gave patriot soldiers to the War of the Revolution. The paternal grandfather of Doctor Britell of this review was a youth when he ran from his parental home in Vermont, and he eventually became a substantial citizen in the state of Illinois. Dr. Oley A. Britell was a boy at the time of the family removal from Iowa to Nebraska, in which latter state he was reared to adult age and had the advantages of the public schools. In 1896 he was graduated from Crete High School in Crete, Nebraska. In 1900 he was graduated from the University of Nebraska, from which he received the degree of Bachelor of Science, and in preparation for his chosen profession he completed a course in celebrated old Rush Medical College in the city of Chicago, from which great institution he received in 1908 his degree of Doctor of Medicine. he began the practice of medicine at Edward, Nebraska, and in 1914 he came from that state to Montana, where he has since continued his effective service as a skilled physician and surgeon, save for the period of his World War service in the Aviation Corps of the United States Army, in which he gained the rank of Captain. After the war he resumed the practice of his profession at Whitefish, Montana, where he had maintained his home and professional headquarters since 1914. At Albion, Nebraska, in September, 1904 was solemnized the marriage of Doctor Britell and Miss Loretta Jean (Mary) Cahill, who was there reared and educated, and the children are four in number: Claude is a member of the class of 1929 in the University of Montana, where he is a student of pharmacy; Erwin is a member of the class of 1929 in the law department of the University of Washington; Lorilla is in school for nursing in Washington, and Jean is in High School in the present year 1930.
