Olga Amanda Sylling was born July 20, 1916 on the family farm in Valhalla Township of Wells County near Sheyenne to Carl and Gina Sylling. She was baptized and confirmed at the Eden Lutheran Church, rural Sheyenne. She was educated at the Valhalla Township School. She married Einer Nelson Oct. 6, 1938 at Sheyenne. They bought a farm in West Antelope Township near Flora in 1942. He died July 21, 2003. She was a member of the Flora Lutheran Church and its WELCA until the church closed. She then became a member of the North Viking Lutheran Church and its WELCA. She received the Sons and Daughters of the Pioneers certificate of recognition from the ND Centennial Commission. In 1992, she received the 50-year ND Extension Homemakers Award as a member of the Flora Homemakers and the Certificate of Merit from the National Association for Family & Community Education for 50 years of active service. Survivors include two sons, Larry (Sharon) Nelson of Discovery Bay, Calif. and Lonnie Nelson of Maddock; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Donnie Nelson; a daughter, Elvina Nelson; and two sisters, Gladys and Dora Sylling.
