He was born on November 10, 1917, at Liberty, Iowa to Thomas and Erma (Crooks) Cackler. Olin entered into active service in the U.S. Navy on September 20, 1943 and served until he received his honorary discharge on March 21, 1946. He received the American Area ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with nine battle stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two battle stars and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was aboard the USS Boston for 19 months. In March of 1950, he moved to the Wenatchee area, working first for Grady Auvil at Orondo and later working in the construction business. He worked for 30 years for Snitily Brothers Construction. He was a member of the VFW Post 4123, Fraternal Order of Eagles #204, and a 50 year member of the Laborers Union Local #292. Survivors include two sons, Owen (Lorraine) Cackler of Edmonton, Alberta and Don (Julie) Cackler of East Wenatchee; and grandchildren, Kenneth (Barb) Cackler of Burnaby, British Columbia, and Kyle and Eric Cackler of East Wenatchee. Nephews, Doyle (Pam) Cackler of East Wenatchee, Greg Cackler of Wenatchee, John (Peggy) Borrall of Des Moines, Iowa Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday afternoon, December 18, 2003 in the Colonial Chapel of the Jones and Jones Funeral Home. Viewing will be Wednesday afternoon until 5:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until a hour prior to the service. Services will conclude at the Chapel and a gathering with refreshments will be held for friends immediately after the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones and Jones Funeral Home.
