MEFFORD OF HEDRICK CALLED Was Presbyterian Church Leader; Aided Dakota Drought Victims. Hedrick.–Mrs. Olive Mefford, 66, widow of Wilma Mefford, died at 5:35 a.m. today at the home of her son, Max, three miles south of Hedrick. She had been in poor health for some time but seriously ill only the last seven or eight weeks. She was outstanding member of the Presbyterian church, and during the Dakota drought she collected a carload of vegetables and clothing in this vicinity and shipped it to the drought sufferers. She lived practically all her life in and around Hedrick. Her husband died about twelve years ago. The Mefford home in Hedrick was built in 1919. Mrs. Mefford went to her son's home several months ago after her daughter-in-law's death, to care for the infant daughter the latter left. The Max Mefford home where she died is the old Mefford homestead. Mrs. Mefford is survived by three sons, Max and Rex of Hedrick and Van of Oglesby, Ill., and by a niece Mrs. Warren Fuller of Waukegan, Ill., whom she reared from the time she was 2 years old. The Rev. J.A. Spyker of Oskaloosa, formerly of Hedrick, will be in charge, and burial will be at the McCormick cemetery at Highland Center.
