Read More	Olive Eloise (Jackson) White was born near Fairmont on June 5, 1895 to Fred G. and Rhoda A. (Wells) Jackson, the oldest of four children. She went Home to the Lord at Fillmore County Hospital, Geneva, on November 11, 1984, having lived 89 years, five months and six days. She attended rural grade school and Fairmont High School, where she graduated in 1913, and Peru State College, graduating in 1915. She taught school for several years, then came home to care for the family when her mother died. She worked as a clerk in a dry goods store for several years.. She was united in marriage to William S. McAvoy on June 18, 1928. To this union two daughters were born, Dorothy M. and Marlene A. Mr. McAvoy passed away in March, 1942. After his death, she returned to work in White's Bakery. In 1943, she began her career as a postal clerk, working until her retirement in 1962. On August 11, 1956, she married George W. White. In 1981 they celebrated 25 years of wedded bliss, just ten days before Mr. White's death. Early in life, as a young girl, she accepted Christ as her Saviour. She joined the Methodist Church in Fairmont, and all through her life was a devoted worker in various departments of church and Sunday school activities, using her time, talents and resources in service to the Lord as long as she was able. She was a member of Star Rebekah Lodge 8 for 64 years, having joined in 1920, a member of Mt. Moriah Chapter 38, Order of Eastern Star for over 25 years. West Blue Aid Society over 50 years and the American Legion Auxiliary, attending them all for as long as she could. In June, 1976, she and Mr. White gave up their home, and went to live at Fairview Manor, where she remained until October, 1984. Because of a need for more acute care, she then moved to the Long Term Care facility of Fillmore County Hospital. While at Fairview Manor, she enjoyed all the loving caring ways given by the staff of the Manor. Until ill health prevented it, she enjoyed participating in all the activities there as well as visits from relatives and old friends. She loved being independent and was very much so, for as long as she could. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, one step-daughter, one step-son and two great-grandsons. She leaves to mourn her passing, her two daughters, Dorothy M. Peterson and husband, Ray of Geneva and Marlene A. Robinson and husband, Carl of Lincoln; three step-sons, Maurice McAvoy and wife, Welcome of Lincoln; Paul McAvoy and wife, Isabel of Walnut, Ia., and Joh White and wife, Winona, of El Tora, Cal.; one step-daughter-in-law, Marjorie White of Lee's summit, Mo.; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.. She also leaves a sister, Merle L. Porter of Long Beach, Cal. and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
