Olive was born at Acequia on Dec. 19, 1913, the fourth of six children of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McAlister. Olive was born at Acequia on Dec. 19, 1913, the fourth of six children of Mr. and Mrs. J.W. McAlister. The McAlisters, early pioneers of the Minidoka Project, were formerly from Snohomish, Wash., and homesteaded in the Acequia area in 1905. Olive attended Acequia schools, graduating from Acequia High School in 1932. On August 20, 1932, she married Robert Eugene Deno, son of Mr. and Mrs. William S. Deno, also from the Acequia area. Following their marriage they moved to Pocatello, where Eugene was a student at the University of Idaho-Southern Branch, from which he graduated. To this union were born four sons, Robert Duane, Richard Eugene, Ronald Tracy, and Thomas Lynn. In 1941, the family moved to Bremerton, where Mr. Deno was employed in the Naval Shipyard, prior to building his own machine shop which he and his four sons operated. Through this training and work experience, the sons learned skills which some have pursued in their life's vocation. The family lived in the Chico area of Northlake Way for 40 years. On Oct. 14, 1974, while duck hunting, Eugene Deno and his grandson, Tracy, were drowned at Potholes Reservoir in Moses Lake, Wash. In February 1981, Olive married Edwin McCullough. They lived in the Manette area of Bremerton and at Happy Trails, Phoenix, Ariz., until her death. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, and loved her church work. When visiting in the Rupert area they always attended Sunday service at the Rupert First Christian Church, into which Olive was baptized on Jan. 11, 1927. Olive was a wonderful cook, loved gardening, and her hobby was ceramics. She won many awards at county and state fairs. She was also an accomplished pianist, which brought her and others great pleasure. Survivors include her husband of almost 22 years, Edwin McCullough; her four sons, Robert Duane (Jeanie) Deno of Rupert, Dick (Jen) Deno 0f Union, Wash., Ron Deno and Tome (Merri Jo) Deno of Bremerton; a sister, Alice Cannon of Rupert; a brother, C.J. McAlister of Redding, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Olive was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; grandson, Tracy; a brother, Guy McAlister of Rupert; sisters, Evelyn Montgomery of Polson, Mont., and Kay Chapman of Chula Vista, Calif. A memorial service was held in Bremerton, Wash., Saturday, Nov. 4, at the First Christian Church. —From the South Idaho Press; Monday, November 11, 2002
