Hospital Mrs. Olive Mae Holbrook, 73, Valley Falls, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, in a Kansas City, Kan., hospital where she had been readmitted Oct. 19. She had been ill 2 1/2 years. She was born July 22, 1895, east of Valley Falls, the daughter of George W. and Martha Griffin McCoy. She spent most of her life in the Valley Falls community except for several years in Oskaloosa. Mrs. Holbrook worked in a bakery at Valley Falls and later was a writer for the Valley Falls Vindicator several years. She was a matron at the Kansas State Penitentiary at Lansing before she retired. She was a member of the United Methodist church, auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Rebekah Lodge, all at Valley Falls, and the Grayson Community club circle at Oskaloosa. She was married to Clarence Stafford in December 1913. He died in 1921. She later was married to Charles Holbrook, who died several years ago. Survivors include a son, George M. Stafford, Washington, D.C.; her mother, Mrs. Martha McCoy, at home; three grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Services were held Thursday at the United Methodist church at Valley Falls. Burial was in Valley Falls Cemetery. Hagge Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home. __________
