I 49th KY INF Enlisted: 17 Aug 1863 Discharged: 26 Dec 1864 Lawrence Journal-World Jan. 15, 1930 page 2, col. 3 Oliver Perry Irvine was born May 5, 1843, at Summerset, Ky., and departed this life January 3, 1930, at his home near Williamstown, aged eighty-six years, seven months and twenty-eight days. Mr. Irvine enlisted in Company I of the forty-ninth regiment of Kentucky. On December 26 he was honorably discharged from the services of his country. In 1868 he came to Kansas and after spending nearly eleven years in the eastern part of the state, he settled on a farm four miles north of Williamstown, where he has resided for fifty years. He was united in marriage to Miss Anzella Thomas, December 13, 1887, at Nortonville. To this union three children were born, two sons, Bert of Williamstown, Fred of Princeton, and one daughter, Mrs. Frank May of Perry. When Mr. Irvine was but sixteen years of age he united with the Christian church. He has been a hard working man, a good citizen, a loving father and companion and a good neighbor. Beside his three children and aged companion, he is survived by ten grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Maranda Smith, of Bethel, Ky., and a host of distant relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the M. E. church at Oskaloosa Sunday afternoon by Rev. R. O. Gilpin, of Perry, and the body was laid to rest in the Oskaloosa cemetery with full military honors due a civil war veteran, in charge of the Perry American Legion. Members of the Legion were pallbearers, a military salute was given and taps was sounded by members of the Legion. Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved family by the entire community.
