Read More	Hauser, Oliver Wilson SHOALS - Mr. Oliver Wilson Hauser, 74, of Shoals passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2004, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Nov. 13, 1929, in Surry County to Oliver Franklin and Lucy Allen Hauser. He attended Shoals High School and graduated from Pinnacle High School in 1947. Mr. Hauser graduated from High Point College, receiving a bachelor's of arts degree in English in 1951. While attending High Point College, he was active in intramural basketball and soccer, was a member of Iota Tau Kappa fraternity and was the High Point College Ping-Pong champion of 1951. He received a master's of arts degree in education admin-istration from Appalachian State University in 1971. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Orleans, France, during the Korean conflict. Mr. Hauser began his career as an educator at Shoals High School in 1954, where he taught and coached basketball and baseball. He continued his career at Shoals Elementary School, serving as eighth-grade teacher and principal from 1960 until his retirement in 1993. He was awarded the honor of Surry County Principal of the Year in 1989. Mr. Hauser was a charter member of Shoals Ruritan Club. He held the positions of president, secretary and member of the board of directors. He made many contributions to the community, having served on the advisory board of Pilot Mountain State Park, the Surry County Board of Health, the Horne Creek Living Historical Farm Committee and as a scoutmaster of the Boy Scout Troop 546. He also served on the board of directors at First Citizens Bank of Pilot Mountain and was made emeritus director in 2000. He was a faithful member of Shoals United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for 49 years and was Sunday-school superintendent for 30 years. Mr. Hauser supported his church in many capacities including chairman of the administrative board and finance committee. He was a certified lay speaker of the United Methodist Church. Mr. Hauser was soft-spoken, principled in his beliefs and a true gentleman. Being a dedicated educator, he motivated his students to strive for excellence. He had a love for literature, always reading and quoting great authors. He was a man of positive thinking, always looking for the best in people given any situation. Mr. Hauser is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Dolly Caudle Hauser; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Marie Hauser of Pinnacle; four daughters, Cindy Hauser of Shoals, Sharon Hauser of Winston-Salem, Michelle Kirkley of Shoals and Ami Hauser of Kannapolis and Melun, France; two granddaughters, McKenzie Grayce Kirkley and Claire Marie Hauser; and a sister, Mae Rene Heffner, of Winston-Salem. Mr. Hauser was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Thomas Franklin Hauser, Dallas Hampton Hauser, Porter Allen Hauser and Addis Ray Hauser. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Shoals United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sid and Betty Boyd, the Rev. Amy Coles and the Rev. Jack Danley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 15, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Clemmons Village I Assisted Living, Village Care of King, Forsyth Hospital Palliative Care and the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
