Description	:	Ona M. Hawthorne, 96, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Ona was born March 6, 1914, in Fullerton to Amos and Emma Gallagher. Ona married Earl Hawthorne on April 2, 1930. He died Feb. 18, 1983. Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie and Ruth Hawthorne of Palmer, Donald and Janice Hawthorne of Howard, Colo., Lonnie and Debi Hawthorne of Johnsons Lake, and Randy and Mary Hawthorne of Central City; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and LaVern DeBord of Kearney, Twilla and Eldred Stahl of Columbus and Kay... Read More	Ona M. Hawthorne, 96, of Grand Island died Friday, Dec. 31, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Ona was born March 6, 1914, in Fullerton to Amos and Emma Gallagher. Ona married Earl Hawthorne on April 2, 1930. He died Feb. 18, 1983. Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie and Ruth Hawthorne of Palmer, Donald and Janice Hawthorne of Howard, Colo., Lonnie and Debi Hawthorne of Johnsons Lake, and Randy and Mary Hawthorne of Central City; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and LaVern DeBord of Kearney, Twilla and Eldred Stahl of Columbus and Kay Carter of Grand Island; a grandson she raised as her own, Chris Hawthorne; and 30 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren and 66 great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends Ona attended Fullerton Public Schools. Ona and Earl moved in 1938 to Hood River, Ore., where she worked at the cannery. She later moved with her family to Nebraska, where they farmed for many years. They left the farm and moved to Grand Island. Ona worked at the Army Ammunition Plant for several years. She also worked at Lutheran Hospital in the dietary department. Ona did day care in her home for family, friends and neighbors because she loved children so much. Ona's greatest joy was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed gardening and playing cards. Ona dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren. Her wonderful sense of humor is going to be greatly missed. Ona had a sparkle in her eyes that made everyone around her smile. She was truly a gracious lady that was loved very much by all who knew her. Ona was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; grandson, Brad DeBord; great-grandson, Jaden Muir; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Hawthorne. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 1/3/2011
