He was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Orangeburg, the son of the late One Gray Sr. and the late Neatie Garrick Gray. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He worked with Pal-Gas and Edisto Gas for 47 years. He was a member of Two Mile Swamp Baptist Church and a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wives, Clarice B. Gray and JoAnn W. Gray and two daughters, Brenda Weathers and Bonnie Roper. Survivors include one son, William "Bill" Gray and wife, Lynn, of Cope; a son-in-law, Dennis "Butch" Roper of Cowpens; a grandson, William (Frank) Gray and wife, Sharon, of Cope; step-grandchildren, Holly W. Barton and Richard of Orangeburg, and William S. "Beau" Walters of Japan (U.S. Navy); great-grandchildren, Taylor M. Gray and William "Trey" Gray III of Cope; step-great grandchildren, Amanda B. (David) Addicks of Rowesville, Allen Barton of Columbia, Randall T. Barton and Kayte R. Barton of Orangeburg, and Dillon K. Walters and Hina S. Walters of Japan. Family will receive friends at the funeral home. Visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan.14, at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Orangeburg.
