Description	:	Opal B. McGuyre Lampe, 90, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at home on the evening of December 6, 2010. She was born on April 3, 1920 in Burkburnett, Texas, the daughter of Pete and Margaret Prenderville McGuyre. She attended school in Mankins, Texas and Saint Jo, Texas where she graduated from high school in 1938. McGuyre Lampe, 90, of Waverly, Iowa, died peacefully at home on the evening of December 6, 2010. She was born on April 3, 1920 in Burkburnett, Texas, the daughter of Pete and Margaret Prenderville McGuyre. She attended school in Mankins, Texas and Saint Jo, Texas where she graduated from high school in 1938. She then started nurses training at General Hospital, Wichita Falls, Texas, and worked in the Emergency Room at General Hospital for one year. Opal then moved back to Burkburnett where for five years she was a nurse for Dr. Carpenter. In 1943, she moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she worked for Consolidated Valtee Aircraft Plant painting airplanes for use in WW II. On March 31, 1944, she entered the U. S. Army, serving as a WAC nurse. She worked as a Surgical Technician at the William Beaumont Hospital in El Paso, Texas where she assisted with reconstructive surgery on soldiers returning from the war. On October 7, 1945 she was united in marriage to Erwin C. Lampe at the Trinity United Methodist Church, El Paso. She received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army on November 1, 1945. Opal and Erv moved to Waverly in 1946, where she became employed as a nurse in the Rohlf Memorial Clinic for three years, until the birth of their first child. Since then, as well as raising her family, Opal was very active in the community. She spent 35 years working with the Girl Scout program in Waverly, 14 years of which she was a troop leader and 27 years as Camp Director at Camp Sacajawea. She was a member of Waverly O.E.S. #353 for over 65 years, serving as Worthy Matron in 1962 and 1984. And she was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, where for many years she taught Sunday School and organized the kitchen duties for various church and community functions. Opal also was a long time member of the Waverly Amvets Post #79 and the American Legion. Members of her immediate family include her daughter Margaret Ann and husband Ray Staub of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; son Pete Lampe and partner Barbara Glasener of Waverly, Iowa; grandson Tony and wife Leslye of Baltimore, Maryland; and granddaughter Joanna of New York City, New York. She is preceded in death by her husband Erwin, parents Pete and Margaret, brother Mac, and son Glenn. Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1400 West Bremer Avenue in Waverly on Saturday, December 11th at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Deborah Wise officiating. Public visitation will be held on Friday, December 10th from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where there will be an Eastern Star Service held at 7:00 p.m.. Burial with military graveside rites by the Waverly Amvets Post #79 will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Memorial contributions may be made in Opal's memory at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1400 West Bremer Avenue, Waverly, Iowa 50677, or Cedar Valley Hospice, 207 20th Street NW, Waverly, Iowa 50677.
