Description	:	Opal E. Bessey Opal Ethel Elliott, daughter of Francis and Eva Elliott, was born in Liberty township, Osborne County, Kansas. February 5, 1908 and passed away November 6, 1965 in the Russell city hospital, Russell, Kansas, after a long illness. She had reached the age of 57years, nine months and one day. She attended Osborne County rural school near her home and graduated from Covert High school. Opal taught five years of school in Osborne and Rooks counties. Bessey Opal Ethel Elliott, daughter of Francis and Eva Elliott, was born in Liberty township, Osborne County, Kansas. February 5, 1908 and passed away November 6, 1965 in the Russell city hospital, Russell, Kansas, after a long illness. She had reached the age of 57years, nine months and one day. She attended Osborne County rural school near her home and graduated from Covert High school. Opal taught five years of school in Osborne and Rooks counties. She was united in marriage to Clifford Bessey of Natoma, May 9, 1928 at Phillipsburg, Kansas. The first five years of their married life was spent on a farm in Rooks County, then they moved to Natoma where they have since resided. She was school custodian for 10 years and was also employed at the local telephone office for 13 years. Opal was baptized and attended the Victor Brethren Church of the home community as a child, later transfering her membership to the Natoma Methodist church. She was a kind, loving and cheerful wife and always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. She never complained of her long suffering. She is survived by her husband Clifford of the home, a sister Cecile Van Gundy of Hanford, California, a brother Elvin Elliott of Waldo, Kansas, a brother-in-law Harry Van Gundy of Hanford, California, sisters-in-law Ruth Elliott of Waldo, Clio Westhusin of Plainville and Irene Gregory of Osborne, and her mother-in-law Mattie Crawford of Natoma, besides nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Those preceding her in death were her mother and father and a brother Floyd who lost his life while serving with the United States Navy during World War II. Funeral services were held Monday, November 8 at 2:00 pm. at the Natoma Methodist church, conducted by the pastor Rev. Frank W. Engstrom. Special music was provided by Mrs. Eulah McFadden, Mrs. Earl Ward, Homer Chesney and Jerry Norris, with Mrs. Kenneth Hobrock as organist. Bearers were Rex Boyd, Alvin Matheson, Don Barth, Donald Casey, James Casey and Richard was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Natoma cemetery.
