She was the 5th of 8 siblings, with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She grew up on the family farm north of Center, NE and attended school through the 8th grade. Read More	Opal passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at Avera St. Anthony's Hospital in O'Neill. Opal Frances Bartos was born July 21, 1930 to David and Millie Croxen in Meadow Grove, NE. She was the 5th of 8 siblings, with 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She grew up on the family farm north of Center, NE and attended school through the 8th grade. She met George Bartos while she was working in Osmond, NE and they married October 3, 1948. They lived in Atkinson for the first few years of their marriage before moving to O'Neill. To their happy union, four children were born – Sheryl, David, Debra, and George. Opal was a long time member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the 8 & 40 Club, and also donated many gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. She loved to play cards, go fishing, and, of course, never missed a Nebraska Football game. She was absolutely happiest at their lot on the river, though, and spent every minute possible there. She worked most of her life waiting tables, bartending, and later worked cleaning the Legion Club. She was also a gifted cook and loved to bake, especially oatmeal bread which she made for all her family at Christmas, and, for about half the family, her pickled eggs at Easter. Opal is survived by her daughters Sheryl and husband Ron Hampton of Norfolk, Debra and husband Richard Walnofer of O'Neill, and son George Bartos and wife Kathy of O'Neill; 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 9 great, great grandchildren, one brother Dale Croxen of Tilden, one sister Arlene Koenig of Lincoln and 3 sister-in-law's, Blanche Ziska of O'Neill, Margaret Croxen of South Sioux City, and Molly Croxen of Creighton, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, George, her son David, grandson, Ron Hampton, four brothers and one sister
