She passed away June 19, 2021 at the age of 94 years 3 months at Lima Memorial Health System. Opal was united in marriage to Everett Lee Metzger on September 14, 1952. She passed away June 19, 2021 at the age of 94 years 3 months at Lima Memorial Health System. Opal was united in marriage to Everett Lee Metzger on September 14, 1952. Together they shared the joys and sorrows of life for over 65 years. This union was broken when Everett passed away on July 7, 2018. To this union were born 5 children: Donna (Wayne) Wray of Denver, IN, Lois (Terry) Jones of Elida, OH, Phyllis (Larry) Locker of Lakeview, OH, Wayne (Melodie) Meztger of Mills River, NC, and Ruby (Randy) Hudson of Venice, FL., 17 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren. Opal was a housewife and made many noodles and angel food cakes along with various other delicious goodies for bake sales at various places in the area. On May 7, 1944, she was baptized and became a member of the Old German Baptist Brethren Church to which she remained faithful. She called for the anointing on March 1, 2017 and again on June 18, 2021 which gave her much peace. Dad and Mom moved to Elmcroft assisted living in April 2017, and Mom to Burtons Ridge assisted living in January 2018 then to Lima Manor in January 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 grandchild, 2 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Edward Cook, Arthur Cook, and Marvin Cook, 4 brothers-in-law, Foster Metzger, Floyd Metzger, Glen Metzger, and Ed Sandy, 5 sisters-in-law, Frances Cook, Patricia Cook, Eva Metzger, Mary Lou Metzger, and Ruth Metzger. Left to mourn her passing are her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, a sister and brother-in-law Ruth (Robert) Bowers, 2 sisters-in-law, Eileen Cook and Ruth Sandy, and many nephews, nieces, and friends. After many years of health struggles, she is finally at peace. We feel our loss is her eternal gain. The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home, Lima, OH. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at Ash Grove Old German Baptist Brethren Church, Elida, OH. The home Brethren will officiate.
