Description	:	Opal M. Dahlberg was born January 28, 1916 in Worthing, SD to parents Jesse and Lillian (Overgaard) DuBois. She died February 24, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls , SD at the age of 97 years. Opal was raised and educated in Wagner, SD graduating from Wagner High School in 1934. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught school. During summers break Opal continued her education and became Deputy County Superintendent of Schools of Charles Mix County. Dahlberg was born January 28, 1916 in Worthing, SD to parents Jesse and Lillian (Overgaard) DuBois. She died February 24, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls , SD at the age of 97 years. Opal was raised and educated in Wagner, SD graduating from Wagner High School in 1934. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught school. During summers break Opal continued her education and became Deputy County Superintendent of Schools of Charles Mix County. During WWII she moved to California and worked for two ship building companies. Following the war she spent a year in Orlando, Florida then returned to teach at Centerville. She married Marvin Dahlberg June 4, 1937 at the First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE. As Opal taught school, she and Marvin raised their family and farmed in the Dalesburg area for over 50 years. The couple retired and moved to Alcester in 1996 where they lived for six years before moving to Beresford in 2002. She was a member of the Home Extension, where she served as state secretary and treasurer; Clay County Fair Board, as the secretary and treasurer; VFW Auxiliary, Past Matron of the Eastern Star and Dalesburg Lutheran Church, where she served as Sunday school superintendent for 19 years. Opal is survived by her son, Mark (Jane) Dahlberg; daughter, Janis (Terry) Ostrem all of Beresford; four grandchildren, Michelle, Kristina (Scott), Nicole (Patrick) and Ashley; five great-grandchildren, Brianna (Maverick), Camden, Tate, Kemper and Ellie; and nieces, nephews and many friends. Preceding her in death was her husband, grandson, Corey Ostrem; sister, Ardis Olson and brother, Roger DuBois. Funeral services will be 10AM Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion, with burial on Friday at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. Visitation will be 2-8PM Wednesday with the family present from 5-7PM at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford.
