Description	:	Opal Mae Stockwell MAY 27, 1924 - DECEMBER 21, 2012 Opal Mae Sandstrom was born May 27th, 1924, to Arvid and Adela (Schoeberl) Sandstrom at Salem, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm near Salem and attended elementary school nearby. An avid dancer, she met Cecil Stockwell at the Arkota Ballroom in Sioux Falls. They were united in marriage in March, 1942. They moved to a farm near Hartford and farmed there until 1944, before moving near Salem where they farmed for three years. Read More	Opal Mae Stockwell MAY 27, 1924 - DECEMBER 21, 2012 Opal Mae Sandstrom was born May 27th, 1924, to Arvid and Adela (Schoeberl) Sandstrom at Salem, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm near Salem and attended elementary school nearby. An avid dancer, she met Cecil Stockwell at the Arkota Ballroom in Sioux Falls. They were united in marriage in March, 1942. They moved to a farm near Hartford and farmed there until 1944, before moving near Salem where they farmed for three years. In 1948, they moved to a farm near Parker, where they stayed to invest in expanding the farm operation and raising their family. A hard worker, her chicken operation and gardening helped keep food on the table as the farm expanded. With a gift of being able to talk to anyone, she was a regular at community dances and was always ready to make a new friend. After moving to Sioux Falls, she worked as a self-employed daycare provider and loved caring for her flowers. In February 1995, she married Bruce Pody. She spent her retirement years volunteering and dancing at the Sioux Falls Senior Center, where she was a Lifetime Volunteer Member. She was also a member of the American Legion, VFW, and the United Methodist Church. She passed away December 21st, 2012 at home. She is preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, her son Dennis, her ex-husband Cecil Stockwell, and one grandson. She is survived by four sons, Cecil Jr of Humboldt, Bruce (Monica) of Humboldt, John of Hartford, and Lloyd (Lynn) of Parker; nineteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Kerkhove. A celebration of Opal’s life will take place on May 4th, 2013, at 1:30 pm at Miller Funeral Home (Main Ave.)
