Description	:	Opal S. Larkins, 101, of Afton, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Opal Sylvia Larkins, daughter of Irvin Sylvester Harris and Minnie Ruth (Ames) Harris, was born Jan. 2, 1908 northeast of Afton. She was educated at the Dodge #7 Country School and schools in Warba, Minnesota. She taught at New Hope #9 Country School for about 3 years. Opal Sylvia Larkins, daughter of Irvin Sylvester Harris and Minnie Ruth (Ames) Harris, was born Jan. 2, 1908 northeast of Afton. She was educated at the Dodge #7 Country School and schools in Warba, Minnesota. She taught at New Hope #9 Country School for about 3 years. On August 14, 1929, she married her high school sweetheart, Owen Stanley Larkins in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. They settled in Minnesota for three years. In 1932 they moved to Afton for seven years. In 1939 they bought a farm in the Van Wert area, where Opal worked as a homemaker and farmwife. In 1974 they retired and returned to Afton. Opal and Owen enjoyed traveling and fishing together. Opal was a member of the Afton United Methodist Church. She had been formerly active with the Van Wert Methodist Church, including singing, and the Women's Groups. Survivors include her daughter, Geraldine (husband William) Jones of Richardson, Texas; two grandsons, Jeff Jones of Wylie, Texas and Scott (wife Connie) Jones of Rockwall, Texas; and three great-grand children, Devin Jones of Norfolk, Va., Zachary Jones and Ashley Jones, both of Rockwall, Texas; a brother Howard (wife Agnes) Harris of Creston; and a sister, Celia Caldwell of Altus, Okla. and a host of nieces and nephews. Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Owen in 1984, a son, Donald, one sister, Wanda Harris, and three brothers, William, Harold and Wayne Harris.
