Description	:	Opha E. (Nicholson) Shaver passed away on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at home with her family at the age of 93, four days short of her ninety-fourth birthday. Opha was born March 1, 1917 in Crawford, Nebraska to Alvin Weddle and Mabelle Michael Nicholson. Opha was the third of seven children, John Nicholson, Bernice Baeckel, Willetta Price, Pearl Grisko, Melva Hengl and Oella Pedersen. Opha was born March 1, 1917 in Crawford, Nebraska to Alvin Weddle and Mabelle Michael Nicholson. Opha was the third of seven children, John Nicholson, Bernice Baeckel, Willetta Price, Pearl Grisko, Melva Hengl and Oella Pedersen. Opha lived on a ranch on Whistle Creek in a two-story sod house built by her father and uncle, William Nicholson in 1906. The family moved with their parents Alvin and Mabelle to Colorado in 1918. She attended country school at Cherry Creek for eight years. The children of Alvin and Mabelle were fortunate to have had a good music education. They had a family orchestra in which Opha played the violin. The children played together in dance halls and in a small Denver symphony orchestra. In 1931 the family moved to Hemingford to live. Opha attended Hemingford High School and took a year of post-graduate work. She taught school for one year at Hunter School. Opha married Arthur Wayne Shaver in Gering, Nebraska on February 14, 1938. They had two sons Wayne Bruce Shaver born in December 6, 1940 and Marvin Douglas Shaver born November 19, 1943 in Alliance, Nebraska. Opha was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hemingford for eighty years. She was active in the choir, sang solos and duets for many funerals and was active in the Women's Society. Until recently, she was an active volunteer at the Hemingford Community Care Center. She was a loving sister to Oella, visiting her weekly at Highland Park. In the 50's and 60's she enjoyed being active in her bridge club, which made an annual venture to Game Lodge in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Her main interest in life was her family and grandchildren, who she lovingly supported. Opha is survived by her sons, Bruce and Doug, and Doug's wife Susan; sisters, Pearl Grisko of Denver, Colorado and Oella Pedersen; grandchildren Penny and husband John Wickham, Sonja and husband Clint Bruhn, Kim Warner, Jeff Shaver, Scott Shaver and Leslie Shaver; and six great-grandchildren, Dylan, Curtiss, Austin, Morgan, Brookelynn, and Ariel. Opha was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Shaver, four siblings, and her great-granddaughter Brittany Shaver. Burial was in the Hemingford Cemetery, Hemingford, NE.
