Sigfred was born near Springville, Iowa, May 3, 1872, and died in Chicago, Feb. 12[sic], 1915 after a brief illness, with pneumonia. At the age of eighteen years he came to Marion and entered the employ of A.L. Daniels. A year later he accepted a clerkship with the drug firm of Lillis & Wilson, where he remained five years. Read More	Thursday February 18, 1915 The Marion Sentinel Orie F. Sigfred was born near Springville, Iowa, May 3, 1872, and died in Chicago, Feb. 12[sic], 1915 after a brief illness, with pneumonia. At the age of eighteen years he came to Marion and entered the employ of A.L. Daniels. A year later he accepted a clerkship with the drug firm of Lillis & Wilson, where he remained five years. He then went on the road for W.H. Torbett & Co., wholesale druggists, of Dubuque, and was a successful salesman for seven years. In 1906 he accepted a lucrative position as department manager of the cloak and suit department with the Grand Leader Department store of St. Louis, where in November 1906, he was married to Miss Bertha Schaeffer of that city, whose serious illness prevented her attendance at the funeral services Sunday. In 1908 he accepted a position with the Omaha Rubber Company, winning fifth place among twenty-one salesmen the first year, and third place the second year. He then entered the employ of Truax, Greene & Co. of Chicago, in whose service he continued until his death. He was a member of Trojan Lodge No. 548 A.F. & A.M. of Marion and of the B.F. Mentzer Hose Co. As a boy he was bright, generous, and lovable. He was always active, courteous and capable in every station of life. As a retail clerk he had no superior. As a salesman he was eminently successful. There was never a truer friend, a kinder brother, a more thoughtful son than Orie Sigfred. He was always unselfish and charitable. No service was too great for him to render the afflicted or unfortunate. In sickness and death he was always an invaluable helper and comfort. A few weeks before his death he contracted a severe cold which developed into pneumonia which resulted fatally after but two days sickness. He leaves besides his wife, but one brother, Ed. Sigfred of Marion, and one sister, Bertha Sigfred of Springville. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 14, at 3 o'clock, at the home of Mrs. Emma Kendall in Marion and were conducted by Rev. A.T. Bishop. Two beautiful selections were given by the Westminister Quartet, composed of Rev. E.F. Ensign, Wm. Sebern, Wm. Richardson and Joe Waugh. His remains were laid to rest in Oak Shade cemetery.
