Description	:	Orpha Ruth Jauken, 93, of Holdrege, formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Orpha was born July 11, 1919 in a dugout on the family farm in Harlan County, northeast of Oxford, the youngest of six daughters born to Henry Oscar and Rosa Lea (Swindell) Cress. The Cress family were pioneers homesteading in Harlan County in 1872. She grew up on this farm and lived most of her life there retiring to Oxford later in life. Read More	Orpha Ruth Jauken, 93, of Holdrege, formerly of Oxford, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Christian Homes Care Community in Holdrege. Orpha was born July 11, 1919 in a dugout on the family farm in Harlan County, northeast of Oxford, the youngest of six daughters born to Henry Oscar and Rosa Lea (Swindell) Cress. The Cress family were pioneers homesteading in Harlan County in 1872. She grew up on this farm and lived most of her life there retiring to Oxford later in life. She attended school in Atlanta and Mascot, Nebraska, graduating from Mascot High School with the class of 1938. She then pursued higher education at Kearney State College, majoring in Elementary Education and taught in rural schools in the area, as well as several years in Oxford and Orleans Community Schools. On August 15, 1947, Orpha was united in marriage to William Otto Jauken and to this union three children were born: Dennis, Loretta, and Wilbur. On August 17, 1998, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. Besides parents and husband, Bill, Orpha was preceded in death by five sisters: Goldie Logston, Etta Murray, Vesta Winquest, Mae Cress, and Precious Cress; five sisters-in-law: Margaret Chattin, Beulah Falk, Verna Frost, Dorothy Jauken, and Elaine Jauken; ten brothers-in-law: Charlie Logston, John Murray, Maurice Winquest, Hank Jauken, John Jauken, Royie Jauken, George Jauken, Clyde Jauken, Butch VandenBerg and Don Frost. Survivors include her three children: Dennis Jauken of Oxford, Loretta Lueking and her husband, Lloyd of Oxford and Wilbur Jauken of Lincoln, Nebraska; nine grandchildren: Timothy Jauken and his special friend, Jaimie Brush, Amanda Jauken and her special friend, Buck Franssen, Ryan Lueking, Traci Fisher and her husband, Justin, Amy, Matthew, and Kimberly Lueking, and Bethany and Whitney Jauken; nine great-grandchildren: Tim, Maria and Aislynn Jauken, Macala Comstock, Teigen Franssen, Jenna, Samuel, Callie and Meghan Fisher; seven sisters-in-law: Eldora VandenBerg of Ireton, Iowa, Donna Jauken of Holdrege, LaJean Jauken and her husband, Lee of Overton, Anita Jauken of Olympia, Washington, Donna Anderson and her husband, Darol of Georgetown, Delaware, Eunice Jauken of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Marilyn Frost of Elwood, Nebraska; three brothers-in-law: Maynard Falk of Holdrege, Alvin Jauken of Holdrege and Neil Jauken of Madison, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
