Sterling, World War veteran and esteemed resident of this city, succumbed at the McCready Memorial Hospital, on Monday morning of this week. He had been a patient at the local institution for only two days. The son of the late Charles Christopher Sterling and Ella A. McCready Sterling, he was fifty years of age at his passing. Mr. Sterling, or "Ben", as he was familiarly known to a large circle of friends, had long been a resident of the Mariner's section of this city and had practically spent his entire life in Somerset county, where he was known and loved by all with whom he came into contact. During World War I he served with the American Expeditionary Forces and made for himself an enviable record of service for his country. Mr. Sterling possessed many outstanding traits of character and was noted for his honesty and integrity. He was an industrious worker and despite his age never seemed to mind putting in long hours at his labors. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Emma Coulbourne, Mrs. Julia Evans and Miss Hattie Sterling, all of Crisfield, and two brothers, Tony Sterling and Ralph Sterling, also of this city. Members of Stanley Cochrane Post No. 18, the American Legion, of which he was a member, took part in the funeral services held yesterday over their esteemed fellow member. Final rites were conducted from his late home at Mariners, and were in charge of the Rev. Robert H. Wilson, pastor of the Mariner's and St. Peter's Methodist Churches.
