The news of the death of Orrin Humphrey at the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown at 6 o'clock last Saturday morning, was a distinct shock to the people of the community, for very few were aware that he had been ailing. He had been suffering with mastoiditis since last summer and had been taking treatments for the trouble with little nor no relief. An operation was finally decided upon and a difficult and dangerous operation was performed just a week before his demise. His condition grew steadily worse until his death. This makes the third young man of the Carlton community removed by death within a year - Elpha and Rolla Haynes and Orrin Humphrey. Mr. Humphrey was born at Lancaster, Mo., Jan. 3, 1891. He made his home with the Frank Richards family in Le Grand for six years while attending Palmer college and since. On March 10, 1915, he was united in marriage with Miss Mayble Richards, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Richards, and has made his home in the Carlton neighborhood since. He was a member of the Christian church at Baring, Mo., during his boyhood days, and later united with the Carlton Church of the Brethren. He is survived by his wife and two children, Lauretta, aged 4, Edwin Eugene, aged 1 year. Also by his step-mother, Mrs. Emma Humphrey, of Baring, Mo.; three brothers and a sister, Vernon Humphrey, of Albany, Mo.; William D. Humphrey, of LeGrand (sic); Alvin Humphrey, whose address is unknown; and Mrs. Carl Betts, of Brashear, Mo., and two half-brothers and a half-sister in the persons of Virgil Humphrey, Dewey Humphrey and Mrs. Carey Clark, all of Baring, Mo., and two step-brothers, Arthur Rolinson, of Hurdland, Mo., and Alexander Rolinson, of Baring, Mo. The funeral services were held from the Carlton church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. conducted (sic) by the pastor, Rev. Freeman Ankrum, with burial in the Carlton cemetery. The pall bearers were Harold Welton, Vernal and Michael Hall, Olen Irons, Pearl (sic) Lowry and Carl Parsons. The flowers were in charge of Mesdames Pearl Lowry, Olen Irons, Michael Hall and Carl Parsons.
