Humphrey was born on Thursday; November 7, 1918 in Garwin; Tama County, Iowa. He was the son of Orin and Mabel (Richards) Humphrey. Raised and educated in Le Grand; Marshall County, Iowa. He graduated from the Le Grand High School. In September of 1941 he joined the United States Army and served in the South Pacific during World War II, being discharged with the rank of Sergeant in December of 1945. On Sunday; August 10, 1947 in Waterloo; Black Hawk County, Iowa he was united into marriage to Onnolee Reed. They made their home in Le Grand. Upon his return from the service he had worked for Green Products and then for 24 years he was a bus driver and custodian for the L.D.F. schools in Le Grand. He retired in 1984. He was also a member of the Le Grand Friends Church, Le Grand Senior Citizens, the American Legion in Garwin and a former member of the Le Grand Masonic Lodge. Edwin E. Humphrey, 88, passed away Wednesday everning, December 6, 2006 at the Iowa Veterans Home where he had made his home since 2002. Those left to mourn his passing are his loving wife, two daughters; Mary Ann Reed of Traer; Tama County, Iowa and Carol Stewert of Le Grand. Five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a brother; Vancil Rowlison of Conrad; Grundy County, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and a half brother. Friends may call at the Estel Perrin Avey Funeral Home on Sunday; December 10, 2006 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are set for Monday; December 11, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Le Grand Friends Church with Pastor Alan Mullikin officiating. Cremation rites were performed and family interment services will follow at a later date in the Le Grand Friends Cemetery. There will be a flag presentation by the American Legion. A memorial fund is being established and may be directed to the family.
