Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at Ashley Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Carlsen Funeral Home, Ashley, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Orvil V. Fischer, son of Jacob J. and Margaret (Nies) Fischer, was born July 1, 1929, at Ashley. He grew up on the family farm four miles northeast of Ashley and attended Kisselberry Country School. He worked on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Loretta I. Schneider on Nov. 28, 1952, in Grace Baptist Church at Hettinger. They made their home on their farm seven and one half miles southwest of Ashley. They were general farmers raising small grains and livestock. In 2003, they moved into Ashley. His wife died Jan. 23, 2009. Farming was Orvil's life. He also enjoyed family reunions, traveling and several mission trips that he was privileged to go on. He was a member of Ashley Baptist Church and Ashley Senior Center. He was a past school board member for 18 years, also a past member of the Co-op board, Opportunities, Inc., Eureka Equity Board and the Rural Fire Department. He was a former Sunday school superintendent, deacon and member of the Men's Chorus and Men's Quartet. Survivors include three sons, Darvin (Candace) Fischer and Royce Fischer, both of Ashley, and Steve (Billie Jo) Fischer, Rolla;, one daughter, Colleen Reardon, Bismarck; three sisters, Alma Bertsch, Ashley, Norma (Bill) Steinwandt, Rapid City, S.D., and Eloise (Allen) Kelle, Bloomington, Minn.; one brother, Wilbert (Betty) Fischer, Fargo; and eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His parents and wife preceded him in death. Casketbearers will be Earl Christmann, Marvin Schneider, Rory Fischer, Danny Silvey, Joel Fischer and David Hettesheimer Jr.
